Volume 15 of 54 of Jules Verne's "Extraordinary Voyages", first printed in 1877. “Off On A Comet” is a tale of survival in harsh and unusual conditions. Dozens of people are consigned band together to endure life on a passing comet after it collides with the Earth, in hopes of returning home after a two-year journey. One of Jules Verne's more 'fantastic' tales, the tale raises questions about surviving in hostile conditions under social and environmental pressures. This particular edition is reproduced from English-edition public works, and is presented simply with an emphasis on straightforward presentation, attractiveness and continuity of appearance, with each title in the "Extraordinary Voyages" sporting a journal-style brown cover accompanied by a cover illustration and quote from the text on the back cover.

This is one of my favorite Jules Verne books. There are some places where you have to suspend your disbelief, especially with the lack of information on how a comet could glance off the earth and no one realizes it. You also always have to keep in mind that this was written in the 19th Century and the know;edge of the makeup of "space"was very limited. But the story flows well and there is humor and drama woven within the story. Definitely worth the read.Product details

Off On A Comet Jules Verne 9781478202714 Books Reviews
This is truly a grand science fiction classic and adventure that stretches out for nearly two years. While of course some of the science is a bit off (given the year it was wrote -- 1877) like many of Verrne's novel it is well grounded in science of the time, with a glimpse forward to the future. Like many of Verne's stories they hold up well a century and a half later.
I remember this book when I was a kid. It brought back fond memories. It arrived quickly and in perfect shape. Well done.
Good relaxing fictional reading. Well written. Not scientifically accurate as much has been learned since this was written, but we'll worth reading.
This book is one of Verne's less well known books. It is written with his customary skill and is an interesting read. The difference between this and some of his others is that the plot of this one involves a collision with a comet that sucks people and parts of countries off the face of the earth and deposits them on the comet, alive, unhurt and complete with an oxygen layer. That's pretty hard to swallow. Don't start with this book if you have not read much Verne, but it is good if you can overcome that plot maneuver.
The story itself seemed to interest my son but I have to say I am a little disappointed with the price of the item. It seems overpriced for what you actually end up getting. I am not sure I would purchase more unless they became less expensive. My son is a comics enthusiast and enjoyed reading this classic in comic form so it had that going for it at least.
Not Verne's best, but still a fun read. The archaic attitudes are harder than usual to take here. Verne seems to think that the company of sturdy male companions is enough for anybody, and women are completely irrelevant. I would think the lack of women in such a situation would be an issue, but, apparently for Verne, it was not. It does not make me think he was gay, it just makes me think he was sexist. Oh, well, it's still a great exercise in imagination, and it led to so much more. If you are a fan of Verne, read it, if not, there are better books to start with.
A Jules Verne story that I have never read showed up as available in KINDLE format. I got it and while much is dated and probably wrong scientifically, it still has the "magic" of other more familiar Verne adventures. Forget what you know about space, and go along for the ride and the brilliance of the author's imagination. This is great fun and a positively engrossing "escape" from 21st century cares and woes.
