I read and write bromance, and this story captures it perfectly. We can wish for more depth and a longer story all day long, but that's only because we wish to see the brilliance last longer, so we might savor it. For what it is - a cover-to-cover read at the end of a long day, or perhaps an afternoon read on a picnic - it's difficult to ask for anything more.It's well-written, typo free, and somehow manages to explore character history and strength of character in the span of 33 pages. The writing style is on the formal side (proper for the genre) and the story as a whole is reminiscent of the classic Master and Commander. Or shall I say, of the bromance between Captain Jack Aubrey and the naval surgeon Stephen Maturin. There is no higher compliment than to be compared to one of the most classic bromances - and stories - of all time.

It's a good premise, it's a bromance, of which I love bromances dearly, but the story was too short. I would have liked to have seen a full fledged plot development and the relationship between the two leads branched out. I was disappointed in the length. I'm hoping it's a prequel to something larger in the future. Keeping my eyes open. ) (hint, hint, nudge, nudge to the author. ;-D)
Of all of Bailey Montagne stories, I believe this is my favorite. I have re-read it often due to the fact that it is a well crafted friendship story that does the relationship between the two main characters justice. Plus the author writes this time period beautifully. I hope she has more stories in the works for us.
