Review I bought this book and wanted to see what everyone was talking about. I think that this book is great!!! I was drawn in from the very beginning because of the fire. There was a spark for Eric the first time he met Velaney. I thought the story was imaginative and refreshing to read. I loved this story. I saw a lot of mixed reviews and I am so glad that I chose to read this book for myself. It was totally worth the read.

Velaney has had a hard life and is afraid it may come back. She keeps Eric at a far distance thinking it would be the best for him. It was a struggle to see if Eric would be able to get through to Velaney but it turned out good. I love stories that happy that edge about them. I enjoyed this story and think that everyone should read it. I know a lot of people don't like cliffhangers but Burn will be out soon! So you should read it!!!

But beware - there is a cliffhanger!!

When a downstairs neighbour's apartment catches fire, Velaney Wills is carried out of the building by the extremely sexy fire fighter, Eric Reilley. Not long after, Eric begins showing up everywhere, including inside her apartment cooking breakfast! Velaney learns that Eric lives in the same building, and he often shows up in time to save her clumsy self.

There's an instant chemistry, or spark, between Eric and Velaney, but Velaney continually fights it. Due to a hurtful past, she feels that she is unable to return any love. The walls she has built around her heart to protect her, have also prevented her from having any form of relationship other than what she has with her best friend, and roommate, Carissa.

Eric is a Southern man. He's well mannered, well built and has a nipple ring to top it off! He slowly gets Velaney to open up to him, and eventually they both give in to their feelings toward each other. Their relationship isn't all smooth sailing. When Velaney's past catches up with her, problems for her and Eric follow.

I really enjoyed reading Spark. Although Velaney comes across as a shy and tortured soul in the beginning, she is a very loveable character. I enjoyed watching her grow throughout the journey of the story.

What's not to like about Eric? Fire fighter, muscles, sexy green eyes, nipple ring and southern accent! He's also kind, considerate and caring. Eric is just an all round perfect guy!

Brooke Cumberland's writing style was hypnotic. There was drama, humour, love and angst. It was very easy to get lost in the story. The emotions were tangible - I was smiling, laughing, and crying over the course of the book. I can't wait to find out what happens in Burn, the next instalment in the series.
This is by far one of the worst books I've ever attempted to read. I say that because I could not finish it. Besides the horrible grammar and spelling errors, you have these stupid made-up words that make no sense and only make her look extremely childish. It was hard to swallow. She is so determined not to be attractive to any man, but only seeing him once or twice, both in extreme cases of being carried out of a burning building and being caught nude, she has this sexual attraction to this man, even though she hasn't given anyone else the time a day. Yeah... Okay. NOT!

I only made it as far as 13%. Yep, that's it. I tried and tried, but all I could do is roll my eyes at how lame this book was. My final reason to stop reading this is you talk about a movie, one in which the characters have seen a bunch of times (Cruel Intentions) which just so happens to be one of my favorite movies and you SCREW it up! It is NOT Sarah Michelle's diary that is photocopied! It is Ryan's! The whole movie his diary is talked about, how could you POSSIBLY think it was Sarah's. She had no time for such things as writing in a journal. She was too busy snorting drugs from her rosary. Ugh!

I think giving this a one star is being nice. I noticed after I finished reading this book that I had another book in my list by the same author and I'm don't even know if I should bother reading it. What a joke.
